An Afternoon in Straub Park is a painting created to commemorate 100 years of downtown waterfront parks in Saint Petersburg, Florida. With the tower from the 1925 Vinoy Hotel peaking above the trees and Tony Jannus flying overhead in the Benoist airboat, the painting may initially appear to be a vintage image dug out of the archives. However, one can quickly see in the distance the present day pier and the children playing in the Banyan trees sport Crocs.  The poster also contains many details and symbols such as the ruby red slippers (because there is no place like home), the small hidden Million Dollar Pier in the trees, a bird watching Audubon Society member and more.   Whether one prefers the old or the new, enjoys walking their dog in the parks, or attending a formal function at the Vinoy, the image was painted to speak to everyone.
